Reducing Meals on Wheels waiting list
A recent $150,000 investment by Sutter Health to Meals on Wheels Yuba and Sutter counties and Meals on Wheels Yolo County is expected to collaboratively advance senior nutrition in the Yuba-Sutter area and Yolo County by providing food for 42 of approximately 150 seniors on a waiting list for meals.
The $150,000 investment will enable Meals on Wheels to receive meals that Meals on Wheels Yolo County will make for them.
The funding will be used to offset the cost of frozen storage equipment, leasing of space to house frozen food, and some personnel expenses.
According to the executive director of Meals on Wheels Yolo County, Joy Cohan about $100,000 from the grant will pay Meals on Wheels Yolo County for meals for seniors who live in the Yuba-Sutter area.
In October, Meals on Wheels Yolo County will begin 12 months of consistent production and delivery of meals to Meals on Wheels Yuba and Sutter Counties, which will remove a minimum of 42 seniors from the Meals on Wheels Yuba and Sutter waitlist and provide each of them with five meals per week.
“We’re really excited about what this support from Sutter Health means for our program. With this funding, we’ll be able to deliver meals to 42 more aging homebound adults who otherwise might go without,” according to a written statement from Meals on Wheels Yuba and Sutter Counties. “And what’s especially exciting is that we can now tailor meals to their specific health needs so folks dealing with things like diabetes or heart conditions can get food that actually supports their health. We’re grateful to be able to do more for the people who count on us.”
